The 2009 Gauteng Regional Gliding Championships are being hosted by the Magalies Gliding Club at Orient airfield

 Dates:

Arrival & official practice day:    Saturday 10th October 2009

Pilots Briefings:                Saturday 10th at 19h00

Contest days:                             Sun. 11th October – Sat. 17th October 2009 inclusive

Prize giving:                    Sat. 17th October 2009 at 18h30

We expect between 25 and 35 competitors, which makes for a whole lot of exciting competition.

John Attwell will direct the Competition, Dick Bradley will be Chief weather/task setter and Chief Scorer Sean de Klerk.

Pilots

All competing pilots must have all their documentation in order to compete - this includes valid GPL, current medical, etc. Their SSSA affiliation, FAI Licence and Aero Club membership must be paid up.  

Costs

Entry Fee:                        R500-00

Aerotows:                        to be advised (this may change depending on the price of fuel and prevailing exchange rate)

Winch Launch:                           Normal MGC rates apply

Gliders

There will be 2 classes consisting of Open and Club Class, the scoring of all classes will be handicapped this means that regardless of glider, YOU can compete and have fun in this event. There are only two restrictions in that the configuration of all gliders must stay the same and conform to class rules for the entire event. In the Club Class NO water ballast will be permitted.  Launching will be by aero-tow or winch.

All competing gliders must have a current ATF

Radio Frequency: 123.4 MHz
Runways:

36-18(L&R), length 1500m, surfaces = mowed grass

11-29, length 900m, surface = cleared levelled mowed grass.

Normal circuits are conducted to the west of the airfield

Turnpoints & Scoring

Turnpoints will be available electronically and can be downloaded to your loggers by the organisation on the practise day or send me an email and I will mail them to you. Scoring will be done using SeeYou’.

Loggers, any logger that can produce a trace of your ground track will be accepted.  If it is an exotic logger please make sure that you bring your cables and software to allow downloading of the trace.

Accommodation & catering:

At the Club there are two bunkhouses with around 26 beds and full ablution facilities (bring your own bedding & towels) and/or there are numerous bed and breakfast establishments in the Magaliesburg area, if that is preferred. There is also an area for camping if the bunkhouse is full.  As last year, there will be catering provided at reasonable prices.

A schedule of costs and entry forms will be sent out shortly. Get your entries in as soon as possible so that we can start preparing for the onslaught.
