Sunday 10th
August
After
briefing Well, no task
as we thought. In front of the low
that is between So today we can sit back and enjoy the aerobatics, flying displays, and so forth. Airshow day! The weather is still distinctly cool, there is almost 8/8th cloud with just the odd break here and there, and there’s a nasty wind too. The flying yesterday was tricky especially in the eastern
turn-point area. Laurens was down to
100 m. above some trees struggling to get away. There were others too that obviously had a
difficult flight – winning a previous day and coming almost last yesterday
namely Arne Boye-Moller of Denmark. Attie, however,
did well, really enjoyed the flight and came 8th for the day in
the 18m., his speed 122.97 kph against the winner’s
speed of 124.91 kph. Quintin did not have a good time of things
and really battled and was not a happy ‘chappy’
when he landed – his speed 94.77 kph. Attie now 32nd
with 2791 pts., Quintin 35th with 2646. Ronald Termaat of
In the Open Class the winning speed was 118.22 kph,
and Laurens managed 111.77 kph. He is still lying in 1st place
overall, but the margin has closed with Michael Sommer
of Last evening we had the mid-way party, which was held in the briefing hangar. A buffet dinner of salads, four different dishes to choose from (turkey curry, pork, Chinese stir fry, and a vegetable medley) as well as two desserts (chocolate mousse and mixed berries with custard). There was a live group, and a glider did some impressive aerobatics in the early night sky, at about 9.15 pm – he had the continuous show of light as well as some fireworks shooting out as well. Definitely lots of oooh’s and aaaaah ‘s!! Pieter tells me that the band continued playing until late and then he and members of the Dutch team adjourned to the clubhouse for further enjoyment (i.e. more beers!). |
