After first briefing – the 10 a.m. briefing as usual congratulated the top 3 of each class day’s winners, as well as the last placed 15m. pilot, Sandor Laurinyecz of Hungary, who had the worst of luck yesterday with his glider tyre needing to be replaced not once, but twice. He was presented with a foot pump. There has also been an amendment to the tow release areas (bringing them closer to the airfield) which will speed up the launch rate – yesterday’s launching took just over an hour. In front of the low that is over the So a new briefing is set for 12.30, and the teams are preparing their gliders ready for gridding prior to the next briefing, if it is decided to set a task. Attie will be giving an Open Session of OSTIV this evening at 6 p.m. about the JS.1 and at 8 p.m. we will enjoy the Polish/Czech team evening. Tuesday 12th
August Morning all – not the best of days yesterday or today. Very sadly Laurens lost his pole position yesterday when the German team of Michael Sommer and Tassile Bode ‘ stepped up a gear’ and took the lead and are now 1st & 2nd place respectively overall. Laurens had a relatively good flight but pushed further into the 1st sector where the weather was good. Then getting back to Lusse he was considerably over the 3 hrs. and was slower on the winning speeds coming 16th for the day. Quintin enjoyed his flying and although not up at the top of the leader board, he enjoyed yesterday’s flight with a speed of 108 kph. Attie had an outlanding, which dropped him down to 48th for the day, and 41st overall. He also took the doors off in his landing but they are now fixed and replaced. Last night there was a weather warning to expect thunderstorms and winds of up to 30 kts. this morning. There has been some rain overnight, but certainly no strong winds and although cloudy, there are a few blue patches. The satellite picture does not look too promising. Presume we will learn more at the briefing. Last evening the team managers, stewards and the jury were hosted to a wonderful braai at Herbert and Natalie’s home – there must have been upwards of 40 people. It was a lovely evening with a red sunset. This evening we will be welcoming Steve Thomas to Lusse for a
couple of days’ visit, and we will also be enjoying a Polish/Czech team evening. |
