Friday 15th August

Good morning all – not such a good morning today as although there were clear high clouds first thing, now the lower muck has moved in and it is drizzling and does not look that hopeful for any flying today.  No doubt the 10 a.m. briefing will confirm this.  They have informed us that we should not grid before briefing!!

A lot of the gliders were de-rigged last evening in the belief that we will not fly.  The flights yesterday were enjoyed flying all around the Berlin TMA – Laurens was 5th for the day with 115.20 kph – the winning speed of 118.94 kph was flown by Holger Karow (Germany).    In the 18m. Doug Jacobs cleaned up with a speed of 123.68 kph.  Attie was 27th at 114.69 kph and Quintin 38th at 109.92 kph.

So if we don’t fly we have Laurens in 3rd place overall  (7265 pts) for the Championships, with 1st Michael Sommer (Germany) 7437 pts, and 2nd Tassilo Bode (also Germany) with 7345 pts.  In the 18m. Olivier Darroze (France) leads with 6853 pts., 2nd Ronald Termaat (Netherlands) with 6755 pts.  Quintin is 35th with 4782 pts, and Attie at 39th with 4577 pts.  In the 15m. class 1st overall Gyorgy Gulyas (Hungary) with 6664 pts, and 2nd Janusz Centka with 6328 pts.

After Briefing

Well it is all over and we have a 3rd place champion with Laurens on the Open Class podium.  Congratulations to him.  Also well done to our other pilots, Attie and Quintin, for their participation and final places.

The weather today is definitely not good enough for any flying, so there will be no flying.  It is hoped that we will have a sunny period for the closing ceremony tomorrow.

Thanks to all the messages and encouragement to all of our team from far and afield, the betting, the chewed nails, and general support of the action here in Lusse.  It has really been appreciated.  So adieu from me – hope I have managed to keep you well-informed, and thanks to all of the team here for their assistance, good flying, support of each other.  Till the next time!
