The final straw was that Mannie landed wheels up.
Many thanks are extended to everyone that has been following the SA Qualifying Grand Prix on the website and apologies that we could not get the tracking live on the internet. We have had a really enjoyable week and the pilots have had some excellent flying and have thoroughly enjoyed the racing experience - it has put a whole new perspective on racing for those pilots that competed - if you see someone ahead of you, you know that he is ahead of you. Makes the flying that much simpler and using the wing loading has also worked well.
To Steve (Taffy) Thomas, Craig Reynolds and Peter (Boris) Wyld - many thanks for your input and updating the website and so forth.
Final update once all the FR's have been handed in.

OK the gliders all started at 13.35 and the start was really fantastic and the sky looks good.
The pilots are all airborne and the start gate will open at 13.35. There is a line of cloud off to the NW/SE which is sitting and moving back and forth and we don't think it will cause any threat to the pilots. However there is development in the Kimberley vicinity which we hope will not cause any problems into the task area.
Herewith the details of the task.
Polygon with 4 points.
281.4 km. GP start line - R16 - Kalkfontein - Westpoint - Peilkop - GP finish line

My birthday today so have been thoroughly spoilt with a bunch of flowers, a birthday card signed by everyone and a large cake saying Happy Birthday Carol at Briefing this morning.
Also a beautiful arrangement of flowers sent by Boris from UK. My thanks to everyone and what a way to spend the day with lots of gliding friends from around the world!
The weather is playing its games again with not dissimilar conditions to yesterday. There is a lot of overdevelopment to the north of Bloemfontein, cold front to the east, moisture to the south and the trough line through Kimberley/Bloemfontein. Out to the west in the De Aar is a lot drier.
Winds are NW'ly with approx. 25 knots strength. The met man was giving even stronger conditions to the south.
So things are not looking too promising and no task has been set as yet.
This morning is blue skies and clear in the West and Southern areas but to the NW/SE is a line of cloud that is already overdeveloping - hopefully that is past Bloemfontein and will not affect us today, and the tasks, if set, to the W/SW/S should be OK.
Last evening there was no catering at the club, so it looked as if virtually all the contestants of the Grand Prix contest were at the local Cattle Baron steak house. This must be a very popular place to eat with the locals as it was very full. The steaks certainly looked extremely good.
And so to the last day - have had no indications about what the task will be, so more later.
