Just a quick short update with a few final last-minute details for you all to note.

 

Glider Licence in SA:  

Overseas competitors will need to bring their current gliding licence issued in their own country and a current medical, if flying a South African registered glider.  You will then be issued with a temporary South African GPL.

Water Filling facilities

Water filling facilities (i.e. hose pipes) are available on the airfield.  Please bring whatever fittings you require to fit onto the hose pipes.

Glider Parking overnight

A tie-down area will be available, but please provide your own pegs/rope/tie down equipment.

Insurance:

A reminder that your glider shall be covered by 3rd party insurance for a minimum of  R500,000.  Pilots are requested to provide written proof of insurance.  If you have no 3rd party cover with your existing hull insurance, you may contact Cornerstone Risk Management on 011.678.8881 (Mr. Rob Southern).

Participants (pilots and crew) should have a valid insurance covering expenses related to injuries, sickness and accidents (including return transportation, medical treatment, hospitalisation, etc.)

The Local Procedures are now available on the website:  www.sssa.org.za and are being sent to the pilots with this Bulletin No. 3.

Catering

Refreshments and food will be available for purchase during the day, and on certain evenings there will also be food arranged and/or at the various functions.

Championship Class:
Gliders will be 15m. wingspan (15m. and/or Standard class) and will be flown at the same wingloading.
Entries to Date:
The deadline date for preliminary entries has been removed as it was realised that many pilots were busy with summer holidays, flying competitions, and so forth. At the time of writing 16 preliminary entries (see end of Bulletin) have been received, so that means there are only 4 places remaining. 
Pilots’Requirements: 
A competitor must be a citizen or resident of the country of the entering National Aero Club and satisfy the conditions of the FAI Sporting Code, Gen. 1 Section 3.7 on citizenship and representation, and must:
• Have flown at least 250 hrs. as pilot in command, of which at least 100 hrs. must be flown in a sailplane,
• Have documented competence on aerotow,
• Hold an FAI Sporting Licence with a current FAI stamp,
• Hold a pilot licence issued or endorsed by the authorities of the country in which the sailplane is registered,
• Know, understand, and abide by the Sporting Codes and the Rules & Regulations issued for the event,
• Hold a Gold or Silver badge and have competed in at least two National Championships.
Rules:
The FAI Sporting Code General Section and Section 3 with its Annexes as relevant to Sailplane Grand Prix. The Local Procedures will be issued soon. Bulletins will be published on http://www.sssa.org.za
Entry Fee & Payment:
The entry fee is €450.00. This covers all operational costs, excluding aero-tows. The entry fee shall be paid in full to secure your place in the South African Qualifying Grand Prix. Please ensure that the full amount is deposited into the account given below. Please ensure that your name is used as the reference when transmitting funds. ** Those pilots that have submitted their Preliminary Entry forms are requested to pay their entry fees by 15th October 2006 at the latest to secure their place. After that date all entries thereafter will be taken on a first-come first-served basis. 
All pilots are requested to submit their Entry Fees, complete the Final Entry form, as well as submit a photo electronically (showing a clear picture of your face, not disguised by sunglasses and hat!). 
Aerotows:
Aerotow to 600 m. AGL will be €36 per aerotow, but this may change depending on the cost of Avgas.
Insurance:
The glider shall be covered by 3rd party insurance for a minimum of R500,000.00

It is recommended that you arrange the personal insurance in your home country.
GNSS:
Documentation will be by GNSS only. All flight recorders, which have received IGC’s approval will be accepted. Please note that before the first competition day, valid GNSS FR calibration certificates for both primary and secondary FR’s will be required. On the Final Entry Form please supply FR information, if known. For those hiring and/or borrowing gliders in South Africa, we recommend that you bring your own FR as a back-up.
Accommodation:
Bloemfontein is a University town and there is a big choice of Hotels & Bed & Breakfast establishments. Recommended Guest House accommodation includes the following and you are urged to make your own bookings:


The Sangiro Lodge is positioned 2km east of the N1 highway just off the Bultfontein Road exit in a 100 morgen game park well outside the suburban belt. From the lodge it is a 10km drive to the airfield, a 15km drive back from the airfield and 10km away from the city centre. Accommodation consists of 10 timber chalets. Each chalet has a separate bedroom, en suite bathroom, lounge with Satellite television, and a balcony that looks out to the west. The bedroom is air-conditioned. Breakfast is served in the main lodge, but there is no swimming pool or bar. The rates are R270.00 for 1 person occupying a chalet, R370.00 if there are 2 people in the chalet. The Bloem Spa is set on the southern slopes of a hill on the north-west side of the city away from suburbia. The drive to and from the airfield is 10km and will take about 10 minutes on quiet un-congested roads, and it is 8km from the city centre. The Spa facilities are excellent and all rooms are air-conditioned. More details about the Bloem Spa can be found on their web site www.bloemspa.co.za The rates are R410.00 per night for 1 person, R560.00 per night for 2 people sharing. The price includes breakfast. The White House is a compact and immaculately maintained facility conveniently situated 6km from the airfield in Lucas Steyn Drive and 4km from the city centre. The bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, satellite TV, 24 hr. internet, and extra length beds. Most of the rooms are air-conditioned and all have fans. There is a delightful garden, swimming pool, thatched lapa with pool table and braai area and there is a pub with large screen TV. The Rates are R350.00 per night for 1 person, increasing to R395.00 for 2 people sharing. Breakfast is included and they have credit card facilities. Ilanga Estates This guest house is built in the Tuscan style and set in spacious grounds just 4km from the airfield, and 6km from the city centre. All the rooms have en suite bathrooms, are air conditioned, have satellite TV and internet connections. There is a bar and dining room and an outside entertainment area with a big screen TV and plunge pool. Rates include breakfast and are R290.00 per night for 1 person and R390.00 per night for 2 people sharing. The Impalala is set on Rayton Ridge looking out to the north and although it is in suburbia it is spacious, quiet and tranquil. Rates include breakfast and are R310.00 for 1 person and R390.00 for 2 people sharing. It is 8km from the airfield and 6km from the city centre. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, are air-conditioned, have satellite TV and fridges. A maximum of 20 pilots will be permitted to compete, of which a minimum of 10 overseas pilots will be accepted. If there are more pilots than places available, the overseas pilots will be accepted based on their position on the IGC Ranking List.
