Carol Clifford .................
..................discovers the wonders of Wi-Fi and sends news from Bloemfontein >>
Personally I don't think we will fly!!
Briefing was held at 11 a.m. - this time on the gliding club side rather than the power side of the airfield.
A Task was set of 6 point polygon with a distance of 310.4 km. It is a small triangle to the NW then back over the airfield and then a more further west polygon. Task points - Start line - R3 - Dealesville - GP start line - R2 - R4 - Peilkop - GP finish line.
However the wind is westerly 20 - 25 kts. on the ground and a lot stronger at altitude. Already the dust of the Free State is clearly evident.
The gliders were duly gridded on the tar, and now with the wind very strongly westerly the gliders are being moved for gridding on runway 27.
I really believe given time - the task will be cancelled.
Have included a few photos from this morning prior to briefing.
L8tr .............
We have learnt that the task has now been cancelled - so everyone will go and do "their own thing".

A good evening was had last night at the venue "SummerWood" with a nice
dinner. All the pilots, crews, helpers as well as Dick's pilots from
Soaring Safaris attended so there must have been about 80 or so people.
This morning is a mixed bag with weather that is not too promising for the
first day's task. Although temperatures are expected to be in the 30's, the winds on the ground and at
altitude are expected to be quite strong - 20 kph on the ground and higher still at altitude. This will no doubt make
for broken thermal activity.
Briefing will again be held at 11 a.m. so hope to give you more news
thereafter.
