All the gliders were launched from 1 p.m. for Task A and the huge bank of cloud that was present has moved further to the NE but may affect the 2nd triangle later in the afternoon. So it looks good at the present with most of the gliders getting up and away. Although LEO, Pieter Nouwens, has had a re-light.

Start will be in approx 15 mins. as I write.

Briefing was duly held and the met man gave us a break down of what went wrong yesterday! Essentially it all happened a lot quicker and faster than expected, and the temperatures also went higher around the convection area.

Today we have the moisture feeding in from the NW, the dew point is high, and there is a 30% chance of showers. However there is a gap of clear skies that they are hoping will give a window for the thermals to work but for the temperatures to not climb too quickly and so we are sitting and waiting to see how the weather progresses for the next hour or so.

In the meantime the gliders have been taken to the launch point. Two tasks have been set so that we can see how the weather develops and then make the decision.

Task A polygon with 5 points

199.6 km. GP start line - Westpoint - Dealesville - New Tempe - Soutpan - Peilkop - GP finish line

Task B polygon with 5 points

162.3 km. GP start line - Westpoint - Krugersdrift - New Tempe - Soutpan - Peilkop - GP finish line

Woke to scraggy clouds and not the bright blue sunshines that we've got used to. However the clouds are now clearing although there is still a fair amount on the horisons. The wind is slowly picking up, but is still not as strong as we have had some mornings. There is a lot of weather to the south of the country and along the coast and rain expected with thunderstorms. We hope that it doesn't spread to the interior and the task area.

You will realise that yesterday was a NO TASK yesterday!
