Upload: Monthly Operations Report. BG, Saturday 28 January 2012 - 21:16:19 // LAN_THEME_2 Monthly operational reporting. On 1 December 2011 at a meeting between Department of Transport, CAA, RAASA and SSSA Mr Anton Richman ruled that comprehensive monthly reporting would be made. Issues identified would be escalated monthly if not resolved. This initial report by SSSA has been compiled to start the process. Hopefully the other parties will comply with the directive and participate. Submitted by BG Monthly Operations Report. FAI World GP Gliding Championships OMARAMA TO HOST GLIDING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPSOMARAMA, New Zealand (September 21, 2007) -The eyes of the aviation sporting world will be on Omarama on December 19-24 when 20 of the sport’s elite pilots from around the globe will compete for the FAI World GP Gliding Championship. Since the first event in the FAI World GP Gliding Series, also held in Omarama in January 2006, pilots have competed in seven other events in countries around the globe to earn a place in the world finals and the right to compete for the title of world champion. The six days of intense competition will see high speed aerial battles of strategy, courage and skill as the pilots race head-to-head through the challenging skies above New Zealand’s spectacular Southern Alps. Travelling at speeds of up to 300kph, often just metres above the mountain ridges and hostile terrain, the competitors are sometimes just a wing’s breadth apart from each other. Despite the huge distances covered in each race, the finishes can be nail-bitingly close with split second decisions deciding the outcome. The FAI World GP Gliding Championships will be seen live by viewers around the world using the latest in TV and internet technologies on www.airsportslive.com . The combined power of these technologies will produce a milestone in TV sports coverage as one of the world’s most sophisticated outside broadcast projects. The coverage will include real-time 3D graphics to explain complex race strategies. Multiple mini-cams placed in cockpits will ensure the viewer is in the middle of dramatic action. Special stabilised helicopter camera systems will provide dramatic air-to-air coverage while teams of expert sports commentators will cover each race. The FAI World GP Gliding Championship will feature pilots from New Zealand, Australia, Germany, France, Poland, Russia, UK, Slovakia and South Africa. It will take place at Omarama Airfield on 19-24 December, with racing on each day, weather permitting. For further information, visit www.gpgliding.com Submitted by Craig
Recent FAI Gliding Record claims As reported on www.glidingmagazine.com, and the FAI site; GlidingMagazine.com asks the pertinent question: "Just what is the VNE of a Nimbus 4DM at wave flying altitude?" JS1 Revelation Awarded the First South African CAA Type Certification Jonker Sailplanes Press Release March 19th, 2010 JS1 Revelation Awarded the First South African CAA Type Certification On March 12th, 2010 the Jonker Sailplanes JS1 Revelation 18-metre class sailplane received South African Civil Aviation Authority (SA CAA) Type Certification. This is a historic milestone for the JS1 Revelation, for Jonker Sailplanes (JS) and for the SA CAA as this is the first South African designed and manufactured aircraft certificated to modern airworthiness standards. Â The certification requirements for the JS1 Revelation are the latest issue of EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) CS-22 Certification Standards for Sailplanes and Powered Sailplanes. For this pioneering work, the SA CAA formed a highly capable team from CAA Engineering, led by Kavita Vanmari. Â Throughout the Type Certification (TC) process the SA CAA team was thorough and meticulous, while being practical and working with JS towards the common goal of TC. Â As this is the first TC awarded by the SA CAA, it was essential that the process was rigorous, especially as the TC will be subject to the scrutiny of EASA and FAA prior to their validation of the TC. The TC award follows an extensive programme of engineering analysis, ground-based structural testing and flight testing to demonstrate that the certification requirements have been met. There will be a formal handover of the Type Certificate by Captain Colin Jordaan, CEO/Commissioner, SA CAA at CAA Headquarters, near Johannesburg, South Africa during April with full local and international media coverage. With a TC to the highest and latest international standards, the JS1 Revelation can now be operated with South African registration in any ICAO country. For further information please either contact Jonker Sailplanes directly or the regional JS agent, or see ![]() Submitted by Stephen Thomas BLADE RUNNER Science Fiction readers will know about "Blade Runner" (and Rollerball) ... We at CGC, egged on by the ever enthusiastic Alan O'Regan, held the first GP at CGC - using a wholly new format where the start, at least one waypoint, and the finish was at eyelevel height (and a short !!!! distance) from the spectators (in this case the paraglider launchpoint at Dasklip) - To see the report (and three of the 1000+ pictures taken) go to http://capebladerunner.blogspot.com/Â There was also some awesome video footage taken by Alan. Also have a look at the regular (!) monthly contest at http://capegauntlet.blogspot.com/Â EY reporting Submitted by Sven Olivier
|
