1997 SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL GLIDING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Typical Tasks

Typical Tasks

Typical tasks flown will be triangles ranging from 300km to 700km. To a large extent the flying area covers the area used during the South African National Championships, which for many years have been held at Vryburg and Jan Kempdorp. This area is situated approximately 160km to the south/west of Mafikeng. Therefore, this area is known to provide good competition flying. Additionally. Mafikeng has obtained international recognition through National and International records flown from Mafikeng, ranging from World 300km speed records to 1250km triangles. In recent years many overseas pilots have obtained their 1000km diploma taking flying from Mafikeng.
